What a One-Item Move Includes
Small jobs go wrong in the same places big ones do: the doorway, the stairwell turn and the last few metres to the room. So a single-item crew arrives with the same kit as a full house move, and the piece is wrapped before it leaves the room it is in.
Distance is rarely what sets the time. Parking, the carry to the entrance and the elevator booking matter far more, which is why we ask about access before giving you a number.
- Two movers and a truck — the minimum for anything heavier than one person can carry.
- Blankets, stretch wrap and corner guards — on the piece before it moves.
- Dollies and lifting straps — an appliance dolly for fridges and washers, straps for the stairs.

Getting a couch onto a truck takes a minute. Getting it round a landing with a low ceiling takes planning, and that is where walls get marked and fingers get pinched. We look at your photos first and turn up knowing which way the piece has to tilt.

Blankets and stretch wrap go on inside, not at the truck. Leather, lacquer and stainless steel all scratch on the first door frame they touch, so protection starts where the item sits today.

Downtown, Yaletown and West End buildings often want a booked elevator, pads on the walls and a concierge sign-off. Tell us the booking window and we plan the job inside it, so a late start does not become a rushed finish.

How a Single Item Move Runs
1. Send a photo. The piece, the room it is in and the stairs or elevator at both ends.
2. Hear back with a crew size and rate. We tell you how many movers it needs and roughly how long it should take.
3. Pick a window. We fit the job around your building’s elevator booking or the seller’s pickup time.
4. Wrapped, carried, placed. The crew protects it, moves it and sets it where you want it.
How Long One Item Usually Takes
You pay for time, so here is what a typical job looks like with easy access at both ends. Stairs, long carries and elevator waits push it up.
- Armchair or small cabinet: 2 movers, 1.5 to 2.5 hours
- Sofa or sectional piece: 2 movers, 2 to 3.5 hours
- Mattress and frame: 2 movers, 2 to 3 hours
- Fridge, washer or dryer: 2 to 3 movers, 2.5 to 4 hours

Parking, Stratas and Elevators
Vancouver’s temporary street occupancy permit takes 7 to 10 business days from payment, so a reserved curb for this Saturday is not an option. Residents applying for their own move do not need the insurance certificate a contractor would.
Strata move fees are set building by building, and the Strata Property Act puts no cap on them, though a fee made by rule is only enforceable once owners ratify it. Elevator pads and bookings are building rules as well, not provincial law, so ask the concierge and send us the window.

How much does it cost to move one item in Vancouver?
It is billed by the hour, and the hours depend on access more than distance. One sofa can be a short job from a ground-floor townhouse with a driveway and a long one from a fourth-floor walk-up with metered parking. Send photos and the access details at both ends and we will give you the crew size and rate.
Is there a minimum charge for a single item?
Most one-item jobs are booked as a minimum block of time, because the truck, the crew and the drive still exist for one piece. We confirm it when we quote, and a second or third item often fits inside the same block.
Can you move a fridge or washer on its own?
Yes. Appliances take longer than furniture because of door clearance, floor protection and how far they can tilt. Most modern fridges, French-door and bottom-freezer models included, should stay upright, and one that travelled on its side should stand for as long as it was down before it is plugged in. Can you pick up something I bought on Marketplace?
We do this often. Settle payment with the seller yourself, give us the pickup address and a contact number, and tell us about any stairs on their side. The piece gets wrapped there and comes straight to you.
Can you bring a piece up to a high-floor condo?
As long as the elevator is booked, the floor does not matter much. Send us the building’s move window and any padding rules and we plan the crew around them. If the piece will not fit the elevator, we look at the stairs before the day rather than on it.
Can you store the item for a while?
We can. A piece waiting for a renovation to finish or a new place to be ready can go into storage and come back out on a second trip.
