Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 September 2026. This version replaces the policy published on 1 November 2023.
Secure Moving Ltd. operates securemoving.ca. This page sets out what personal information we collect through the site and through the moves we carry out, why we hold it, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do with it. It is written to meet Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
Who we are
Secure Moving Ltd. is a moving company incorporated in British Columbia. We move households and offices across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, and we handle long-distance moves across Canada. Our two offices are working offices rather than storefronts, so the fastest way to reach a person is the phone.
- Vancouver head office: 1281 Hornby St, Vancouver, BC V6Z 0G8, Canada
- Burnaby head office: 3786 Manor St, Burnaby, BC V5G 1A6, Canada
- Phone: 604-500-3003 or toll-free 1-888-505-2729
- Email: info@securemoving.ca
PIPEDA requires us to name someone accountable for the personal information in our care. That person is our Privacy Officer, who can be reached at the email address above with Privacy in the subject line, or by mail at the Burnaby office.
The rules we work under
- PIPEDA is the federal law that covers personal information collected in the course of commercial activity, including moves that cross a provincial or national border. The regulator is the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
- BC PIPA covers personal information handled by private organisations inside British Columbia. The regulator is the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC.
- CASL, Canada’s anti-spam legislation, governs the commercial email we send. Background is at fightspam.gc.ca.
What we collect
Information you give us
Most of what we hold comes straight from you, on a quote form, over the phone, by email, or during an on-site estimate:
- your name, phone number and email address
- the address you are moving from and the address you are moving to
- the date of the move, the size of the home or office, and the floor and elevator or parking situation at both ends
- an inventory of what needs to be moved, including items that need special handling such as a piano, a safe or appliances
- anything else you write in the message field or tell our estimator
- billing information if you go ahead and book, and the name on file for the account
We only ask for what a crew and a dispatcher need to price the job and show up at the right door with the right truck.
Information the website collects on its own
When you open a page on securemoving.ca, our website and the services listed below record technical details: your IP address, the browser and device you are using, the pages you view and how long you stay, the page or search that sent you here, and the date and time of the visit. This is collected through cookies and similar technology.
Calls and messages
Calls to our numbers are logged for scheduling and for checking the quality of our own work: the number, the time and the length of the call, along with any details you give the person who answers. If a call is ever recorded, you will be told at the start of it. Emails and text messages about a move are kept with the job file.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
Our tags load through Google Tag Manager (container GTM-P9588QC). Through that container the site runs:
- Google Analytics 4, which counts visits and measures actions such as submitting a quote form or tapping a phone number. We look at it in aggregate to see which pages help people and which do not. Google’s explanation of how it handles this data is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
- Google Ads tags, which tell us that an ad click led to a quote request or a phone call, and which allow us to show our ads again to people who have already visited the site.
Three other services set cookies of their own on pages where they appear: Google reCAPTCHA, which keeps bots off our forms, Google Maps, where a map is embedded, and Instagram, where our feed is embedded. Our website software and caching also set functional cookies that keep the site working and remember your session.
Turning it off
- Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings. Blocking all of them will break some parts of this site, such as the map and the embedded feed.
- Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on stops Google Analytics from measuring your visits to any site.
- Ad personalisation can be switched off at My Ad Center.
We honour browser signals where the law requires it. Beyond that, no industry standard for Do Not Track has been settled, so we cannot promise every third party listed above will act on it.
How we use your information
- to price a move and send you an hourly estimate
- to schedule the crew, the truck and the equipment, and to reach you on moving day
- to carry out the move itself, including packing, storage and any part of the job handled by a partner
- to invoice you and keep the accounting records the law obliges us to keep
- to answer questions, handle a claim and follow up after the job
- to send service messages about your booking, and marketing email if you have asked for it
- to see how the website performs and to measure our advertising
- to protect the site and our business against fraud, spam and misuse
We do not use your information for anything unconnected to these purposes without asking you first.
Consent
Sending a quote request, booking a move or giving us your details on the phone is how you consent to the uses set out above. You can withdraw that consent at any time by writing to us, subject to what we still have to keep for legal and accounting reasons. If you withdraw consent before a move, we may no longer be able to carry it out.
Who else sees your information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not hand it to anyone else for their own marketing. It is shared only in these situations:
- Our own people. Office staff, estimators and the crew assigned to your job, limited to what each of them needs.
- Service providers. The company that hosts this website, the tools we use for email, quotes and customer records, our payment processor, and the Google services described above. They act on our instructions and are not free to use your details for their own purposes.
- Partner carriers and storage facilities. If part of your move is handled by another carrier or your goods go into storage with a partner, we pass on only the details that job needs.
- Insurers and claims. If a claim is made, the relevant file goes to our insurer or adjuster.
- Legal obligations. We release information when a court order, a subpoena, a regulator or another legal duty requires it, and where it is needed to establish or defend a legal claim.
- A sale of the business. If Secure Moving Ltd. is sold or merged, customer records would move with it. You would be told, and this policy would continue to apply until the new owner published its own.
Where your information is stored
Our records are held in Canada and in the United States, depending on the provider. Google and some of our other suppliers process data on servers outside Canada, which means a foreign court or government agency could compel access to it under the laws of that country. By using this site or booking a move you accept that this transfer takes place. If you would rather deal with us entirely by phone and paper, call the office and say so.
How long we keep it
- Quote requests that do not turn into a booking: up to 24 months, so we can pick up the thread if you come back to us.
- Completed moves: at least six years after the last tax year the record relates to, which is the period the Canada Revenue Agency applies to business records, and longer where an insurance claim or a dispute is open.
- Marketing lists: until you unsubscribe, plus a short record of the unsubscribe itself so we do not email you again by accident.
- Website analytics: for the retention period set in our Google Analytics property, after which Google deletes the user-level records.
When a record passes its retention period it is deleted or anonymised.
How we protect it
This website runs over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), the administrative side is restricted to named accounts, and access to customer records inside the company is limited to the people who need them for a job. Our suppliers are chosen on the basis that they can meet a comparable standard. No system connected to the internet is completely safe from attack, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach ever creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the Privacy Commissioner as PIPEDA requires.
Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law you can:
- Ask what we hold. We will tell you what personal information about you we have, how it has been used and who it has been given to.
- Correct it. If something in your file is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will fix it.
- Withdraw consent or ask us to delete what we are not obliged to keep.
- Unsubscribe from marketing email using the link in any message, or by replying and asking.
- Complain. Write to our Privacy Officer first. If our answer does not satisfy you, take it to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
Send requests to info@securemoving.ca. We answer within 30 days, which is the deadline PIPEDA sets, and there is no charge for a routine request. We will ask you to confirm who you are before releasing anything, so that no one else can obtain your file.
Children
Our services are sold to adults and this website is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has sent us something, contact us and we will remove it.
Links to other websites
Some pages link out to review sites, partners and social profiles. Those sites are run by other companies under their own privacy policies, and we have no control over what they collect. Read their policies before handing over anything personal.
Changes to this policy
We update this page when our practices or the law change. The date at the top always shows the current version. Material changes will be flagged on the site, and continuing to use securemoving.ca after an update means you accept the revised policy.
