The rest of the West Side
Point Grey
West of Alma the houses get bigger and the lots stay narrow, which is an awkward combination for a moving truck. Most of Point Grey is character housing on 33 to 50 foot lots with lane access at the back, and the lane is often the only place a five ton will fit. Streets running north toward Spanish Banks drop steeply, so we park facing the right way before anything comes off the truck. Suites in these houses are common and usually reached by an outside stair, which adds time rather than difficulty.
Dunbar
Dunbar-Southlands is mostly 1920s to 1940s houses that have been added to rather than replaced. Driveways are narrow and often shared, and a lot of homes have a basement suite with its own low-headroom entrance. South of 41st the character shifts. Southlands has acreage, horse trails and gravel drives, and we send a smaller truck there more often than anywhere else on the West Side.
Kerrisdale
Two very different moves happen in Kerrisdale. Detached streets north and south of 41st are pre-war houses with mature trees that limit how close a truck can get. Along West Boulevard and 41st itself there are low-rise apartment buildings, many of them from the 1960s and 70s, where the elevator is small and sometimes the only one. Those buildings are why we ask which floor and which building before estimating hours.
Arbutus Ridge
Arbutus Ridge sits between Kerrisdale and Kitsilano and moves like both. Older houses along Quilchena and Trafalgar have long front stairs. Newer townhouse rows near the Arbutus Greenway have short driveways and shared visitor parking that fills early on weekends.
