Vancouver to Nanaimo Movers
One Ferry, One Crew, and Most Homes Unloaded the Same Day
Moving to Nanaimo is short on the map and long on logistics. The sailing has to be booked, the truck has to be the right length for the deck, and the crew has to land with enough daylight left to unload. We handle all three, so your part is deciding which room the boxes go in.
Loading anywhere from West Vancouver to Chilliwack and delivering to Nanaimo, Lantzville, Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Ladysmith and Cedar. Island to mainland moves run the same way.
Send us both addresses and your preferred date. We will check sailings and come back with a price range and a plan for the day.

What Are You Taking Across?
On a ferry move the size of the load decides two things: how long the crew spends at each end, and how big a truck has to cross. Choose the closest match.
Studio or Bachelor Suite
Often done on a single sailing with a smaller truck and a two-person crew.
One-Bedroom Apartment
Loaded in the morning, across by early afternoon, unpacked before dinner.
Two-Bedroom Home
A full truck and a crew of three, timed around a midday sailing.
Family House
Sometimes a two-day job, with the truck crossing in the evening and unloading first thing.

How a Ferry Move to Nanaimo Works
Two BC Ferries routes land in Nanaimo. Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay takes about an hour and forty minutes and drops you near downtown and the north end. Tsawwassen to Duke Point runs about two hours and suits the south end, Cedar and Ladysmith. We pick the terminal that saves the most driving from your pickup address, which usually means Horseshoe Bay from the North Shore and Vancouver, and Tsawwassen from Richmond, Surrey and the Valley.
Commercial vehicles pay by length, and summer sailings sell out weeks ahead. We reserve the crossing when you book, so the truck is not sitting in a standby lane on a Friday afternoon.
- Sailing booked for you — reserved at the time you confirm, with the fare in your estimate.
- Right-sized truck — matched to the load so you do not pay to ship empty deck space.
- Same crew both sides — the people who load are the people who unload.
- Inventory list — signed on the mainland, checked off on the Island.
- Storage if needed — in Metro Vancouver while the Island closing lines up.
- Replacement coverage — protection that reflects what is in the truck.
What Changes the Cost of a Nanaimo Move
Crew Hours on Both Sides
Loading in Vancouver and unloading in Nanaimo are where most of the time goes. A home that is packed, labelled and ready when the crew arrives costs noticeably less than one still being boxed up.
The Crossing Itself
Your estimate includes the ferry fare for the truck and crew, plus the time spent in the terminal and on the water. Commercial fares rise with vehicle length, which is one more reason to size the truck to the load.
Which Sailing We Catch
A mid-morning sailing on a weekday is the sweet spot. Missing a sailing on a busy day can cost two hours, so we build loading time around the departure rather than hoping for the best.
Access at Each Address
Steep driveways, narrow lanes and walk-up stairs exist on both sides of the Strait. Mention parking and steps at the survey and they are priced in, not discovered.
Season and Weekday
July and August weekends are the busiest days on the ferries and the hardest days to move. If your dates are flexible, a Tuesday in October is a very different experience.
Weather on the Water
Strong winds occasionally cancel sailings. When that happens we move you to the next available crossing and keep you informed. It affects timing far more often than cost.

How the Move Works
1. Survey. In person or by video, so the truck size and crew size are right from the start.
2. Sailing and price. We hold a crossing and give you an estimate that includes the fare.
3. Mainland load. Wrapped, loaded and listed, then straight to the terminal.
4. Island unload. Off the ferry, to your door, furniture set up where you want it.
What the Estimate Covers
A Nanaimo move is priced on crew time at both addresses plus the crossing. The ferry fare for the truck and crew is built into the estimate, so there is no separate bill from BC Ferries.
Packing, heavy items and hard access are added only when the job needs them. Parksville and Qualicum Beach add some driving on the Island side, and the estimate accounts for it.
How Long It Takes
Most apartments and smaller homes are loaded, shipped and unloaded in one day. Larger houses may cross on an afternoon or evening sailing and unload the next morning.
Plan around the ferry rather than the clock. Booking early in the week and early in the month gives you the widest choice of sailings.
Vancouver to Nanaimo Moving FAQs
How much does it cost to move from Vancouver to Nanaimo?
It depends on the size of the home, how ready it is on moving day and which sailing we take. Your estimate covers the crew, the truck and the ferry fare, and we send it after a short survey.
Which ferry do you use?
For most Vancouver and North Shore pickups we use Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay, and Tsawwassen to Duke Point when the move starts south of the Fraser. We choose whichever saves the most total time.
Can the move be done in one day?
For most one and two-bedroom homes, yes. Bigger houses sometimes cross in the evening and finish unloading the following morning.
Do I need to book the ferry myself?
No. That booking is ours, for both the truck and the crew. If you are driving over separately, book your own car reservation for the same day.
Do you move from Nanaimo to Vancouver?
Yes, and it is planned the same way, with the crew crossing to load on the Island and unloading on the mainland.
What if a sailing is cancelled?
We move to the next available crossing and keep you updated. Weather cancellations are uncommon and rarely change the price.
