How Much Is Making the Trip?
Volume drives the price on this corridor far more than the kilometres do. Pick the size nearest yours to get a feel for what the move involves.
A Few Rooms or a Studio
Bed, sofa, a desk and a stack of cartons. Usually rides on a shared load.
One-Bedroom Apartment
Easy to slot into a shared trip, which keeps the price down.
Two-Bedroom Home
Appliances, a full kitchen and the storage locker everyone forgets until the survey.
Family House
Garage, basement and yard gear. Worth surveying in person, because that is where volume hides.
Dedicated Truck
Your load only, driven straight through. Faster and more predictable, priced for the whole truck.
Packing for the Passes
Ten hours of grades and switchbacks call for different packing than a move across town. Learn more →

What the Calgary to Vancouver Run Involves
From Calgary the truck runs west on the Trans-Canada past Banff and Lake Louise, over Kicking Horse Pass and Rogers Pass, down to Kamloops and then the Coquihalla to the coast. It is around 970 kilometres and ten to eleven hours of driving in good conditions, longer for a loaded truck that keeps to commercial speeds on the grades.
Crossing the border between the provinces also means changing clocks. Alberta runs on Mountain Time, an hour ahead of Vancouver, so a 9 a.m. load in Calgary is 8 a.m. here. We set the delivery window in Pacific time so nobody waits at the wrong hour.
- Inventory both ends — every item numbered at loading and checked off at the door.
- Shared or dedicated — share the trailer and pay less, or book the whole truck and get there sooner.
- Priced from a survey — in person or by video, so the number on moving day matches the estimate.
- Winter-ready trucks — chains carried and mountain-rated tires fitted for the passes.
- Storage on standby — in Metro Vancouver while a possession date catches up.
- Replacement coverage — protection that reflects what is actually in the truck.
What Moves the Price Between Calgary and Vancouver
Cubic Feet, Not Kilometres
The distance is the same for everyone on this route, so it barely separates one quote from another. What does is how much trailer space your belongings take up. A studio with a few cartons and a house with a garage are different jobs even if both addresses are identical.
Sharing the Truck or Booking It Outright
Your furniture shares the trailer with one or two other households heading the same way. You pay for your share of the space and accept a wider delivery window. Booking the whole truck means it leaves when you are loaded and drives straight to your door, which costs more and saves days.
Calendar Pressure
Late June through August is the busy stretch, and so is the end of every month when leases turn over. Moving mid-month or in the shoulder seasons usually widens your choice of dates and can lower the number.
Stairs, Elevators and Parking
A Beltline walk-up and a Yaletown tower with a booked freight elevator take very different amounts of crew time. Tell us about the access at both buildings when we survey, including how far the truck can park from the door.
What Stays Behind
Sorting before the survey is the cheapest saving on this route. Old patio furniture, a second fridge in the garage and boxes nobody has opened since the last move all take paid space in the trailer.
Weather in the Mountains
Winter storms close Rogers Pass for avalanche control, sometimes for hours. That changes timing rather than cost. If the Trans-Canada shuts, the driver waits it out or takes the Crowsnest route through the south of the province, and we let you know which.

Calgary to Vancouver Deliveries Across Metro Vancouver
How the Move Works
1. Survey. We walk through the home or do it on a video call, room by room, because the volume sets the price.
2. Estimate and window. You get a price and a delivery window in Pacific time before anything is booked.
3. Loading. Wrapped, padded and secured for the grades, with a numbered inventory you sign.
4. Delivery. Unloaded against the same list, beds reassembled and packing debris taken away.
How the Price Is Worked Out
Moves between Calgary and Metro Vancouver are priced on the space your belongings take in the truck, not by the hour. A survey, in person or by video, measures that space and records the access at both addresses.
Sharing a trailer costs less than booking one outright. Packing, long carries, extra stairs and storage are added only if you need them, and every one of them is in the estimate before you book.
How Long It Takes
A dedicated truck usually loads one day and delivers the next, or the day after if loading runs late. Shared loads arrive within three to seven days of pickup.
Between October and April the passes can slow things down. Winter tires and chains are required on the mountain sections, and closures for avalanche work tend to cost hours, not days. We tell you the moment the schedule shifts.
Calgary to Vancouver Moving FAQs
How much does it cost to move from Calgary to Vancouver?
It depends mainly on how much you are sending and whether you share the truck or book it outright. A short survey, in person or by video, gives you an estimate for your actual inventory, with packing, stairs and storage itemised, before anything is booked.
How long does a Calgary to Vancouver move take?
With a dedicated truck, delivery is normally the day after loading or the day after that. Expect a three to seven day window on a shared load. Winter weather on the passes can add a day.
Is it cheaper to rent a truck and drive it myself?
For a small load, sometimes. Add one-way rental fees, fuel for a heavy truck over three mountain passes, a night in a motel and two days off work, and the gap narrows quickly. Anyone who has driven a loaded truck over Rogers Pass in November will tell you once was enough.
Do you move from Vancouver to Calgary as well?
Yes. Eastbound moves are surveyed and priced the same way, with the same crews at the Vancouver end.
What happens if my new place in Vancouver is not ready?
We hold your belongings in storage in Metro Vancouver and deliver when you have the keys. That is usually far cheaper than keeping a loaded truck waiting.
Can you move just a few items between Calgary and Vancouver?
Yes. Small shipments ride on a shared load, which keeps the cost down. Send a list of the items and we will price them on their own.
