Senior Movers in Vancouver

Downsizing, Retirement Residences and Care Homes, Handled at Your Pace

Leaving a home after thirty years is not a job you rush through in one loud morning. Our crews have done this move many times before. They pack around what you are still deciding on, and the bed is made and the kettle is out before we leave.

Senior and downsizing moves across Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, the North Shore, the Tri-Cities, Surrey and the Fraser Valley, including moves into retirement residences and long-term care.

What Kind of Move Is This?

Most senior moves are one of these, and a good number are two of them at once: a downsizing that also sends furniture to the grandchildren, or a move into care with a storage stop for the rest.

Downsizing From the Family Home

A four-bedroom house into a two-bedroom condo, with the keep pile packed and everything else sorted for family, donation or storage.

Moving Into a Retirement Residence

Furniture measured against the suite plan, the move fitted inside the building's move-in window, and the room set up before dinner.

Long-Term Care and Assisted Living

A short-notice move of a few pieces and personal things, timed around the care home's admission day.

Packing for a Parent

Full or partial packing when the person moving cannot do the lifting, or the family lives in another city. Learn more →

Pieces Going to Family

The dining table to Surrey, the bedroom set to North Vancouver, delivered on the same day as the main move.

Storage Between Homes

When the new place is not ready or the family is still deciding, the rest waits in storage and comes out on a second trip. Learn more →

Estate Contents for Families

Clearing a parent's home after a loss, with pieces going to several addresses and the rest to storage or donation.

A Few Pieces or One Item

A lift chair, a bed or a single dresser moved on its own, without paying for a full-house crew. Learn more →

Mobility and Medical Equipment

Lift chairs, hospital beds, scooters and walkers moved and set back up in the room they are used in.

What a Senior Move Includes

The difference on a senior move is not the truck or the blankets. It is the pace, the order things happen in, and how many decisions we can take off the person moving on the day itself.

We ask before the move who is making the calls, what is going where, and which pieces have to be in place before the first night. Then the crew works from that list rather than asking a tired person the same question forty times.

  • A small, steady crew: two or three movers who stay on the job from first box to last, so the same faces are there all day.
  • Room-by-room labelling: boxes marked for the room they are going to in the new home, not the room they came from.
  • Furniture wrapped in the room: blankets and stretch wrap go on before anything meets a door frame.
  • Beds first at the other end: the bed rebuilt and made, the chair by the window, the lamp plugged in.
  • Deliveries on the way: pieces for family or a storage locker dropped off on the same trip when the route allows it.
  • Free boxes on larger moves: moves of two bedrooms or more get their boxes from us.

Why Families Book Us for a Parent's Move

Slower on Purpose

A crew that is used to racing through condo moves will leave an older person standing in the hallway wondering what just went where. Ours slow down. We talk through what is being lifted before it is lifted, and we stop when asked.

Adult children often organise this from Calgary or Toronto. You get the office number and a named person who confirms the plan the day before and calls if anything on the list needs a decision, so nobody has to be on the phone to the truck.

Residences Run to a Clock

Retirement residences and care homes usually give a move-in window, an elevator to book and a loading area shared with deliveries. We have moved people into many of them across Metro Vancouver and plan the day around the building’s hours rather than ours.

On a downsizing move the pile marked “not sure” is the one that matters. We move what you tell us to move, leave the rest where it is, and never decide for you what a box of letters is worth.

The First Night Works

Before we go, the bed is made, the medication is where it was in the old kitchen, the phone and TV are plugged in and the walker has a clear path from bed to bathroom. That is the part people remember.

Licensed, bonded and WorkSafeBC registered on every booking. Families who cannot be there in person are trusting the crew with a parent and a house, and that is a reasonable thing to want in writing.

Senior Moves Across Metro Vancouver

Metro Vancouver
Condo downsizes in the West End and Kerrisdale, retirement residences from Kitsilano to Burnaby and North Shore homes with the long driveway and the steep steps.
Fraser Valley & Ridge Meadows
Family homes in Langley and Abbotsford going to a smaller place nearby or to a care home closer to the children in the city, with the same crews and the same hourly rate.

How a Senior Move Runs

1. A conversation, not a form. Call us, or have a family member call. The questions are what is moving, where it is going and who is deciding.

2. A walk-through if it helps. For a whole house we come and look, so the estimate is built on your rooms rather than a guess.

3. The plan, in writing. Crew size, hourly rate, start time and which pieces go to which address.

4. The move, at your pace. Packed if you asked for packing, wrapped, carried and set up in the new place before we leave.

Timing a Move Into Care

Moves into long-term care rarely come with much notice. When a health authority offers a bed, families usually have about 48 hours to accept and the move-in follows within days, so we take these on short notice when the schedule allows, often a few pieces within a day or two of the call.

Retirement residences are the opposite. Move-in dates are set weeks ahead, the building has a move-in window and an elevator booking, and the suite plan tells you which furniture fits. Send us the plan and we will tell you what to bring and what to send elsewhere.

Parking, Stratas and Elevators

Vancouver’s temporary street occupancy permit takes 7 to 10 business days from payment, so if the old home is on a metered street, apply the week you book us rather than the week of the move.

Strata move fees and elevator pads are set building by building, not by the province, so ask the concierge at both ends. Most residences will book the service elevator for you once they have a date, and a few need the moving company’s insurance certificate first. That goes out the same day you ask.

Senior Moving FAQs

How much does a senior move cost in Vancouver?

Local moves are billed by the hour, and the hours depend on how much is going, how much packing we do and the access at both ends. A condo downsize with the packing done is a short day; a full house with a storage stop and two family deliveries is a long one. Give us a rough list of what is moving and we will come back with a crew size and rate, and for a whole house we would rather come and look first.

Yes. Our packing crews can do the whole home or only the kitchen and the breakables. If she wants to sort as we go, we pack at her pace and leave the not-sure pile for last. Photos of every shelf before it is packed help us put things back the way they were.

Regularly. Pass on the residence’s move-in instructions, the suite floor plan if you have one and the elevator booking, and we plan the day inside them. If the building wants an insurance certificate before we come in, we send it ahead.

It goes wherever you decide: to a family member’s home, to storage until the family has decided, or to a donation pickup if one is arranged. Charities that collect furniture usually need a week or more of notice, so book that before the move date rather than after.

Often within a day or two of the call, because those moves are usually a bed, a chair, a dresser and personal things rather than a full house. Once we have the admission date and time, we work backwards from it.

Lift chairs, adjustable beds, scooters and walkers are moved and set back up in the room they are used in. If a rented hospital bed is going back to the supplier rather than to the new home, tell us so we do not load it.

Moving a Parent, or Moving Yourself?

Say where the move is going and roughly what is coming with it, and we will come back with a crew size, an hourly rate and a plan for the day. Or call and talk it through with someone who has done this move before.
