Piano Movers in Vancouver
Uprights, Grands and Digital Pianos, Moved on a Board by People Who Do It Often
A piano is the one piece in a house that a general crew should not improvise with. Ours moves it as its own job, on a piano board with straps and a crew of three, and it goes into the new room without a scratch on the case or a cracked caster.
Piano moving across Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, the North Shore, the Tri-Cities, Surrey and the Fraser Valley, in and out of houses, condos, churches, schools and studios.

What Kind of Piano Is It?
The type of piano decides the crew, the equipment and the time. If you are not sure what you have, send a photo and measure the width; we will know from that.
Upright Pianos
Spinets, consoles and studio uprights, moved standing on a dolly and strapped to a board for stairs.
Full-Size Uprights
The tall old ones, often over 200 kilograms, with the weight high in the case. The most common piano we move and the one most often underestimated.
Baby Grands
Legs and lyre off, the body wrapped and laid on its long side on a skid board, then rebuilt in the new room.
Grands and Concert Grands
The same method with more hands and more padding. Doorway and turn widths are measured before we quote.
Digital Pianos and Keyboards
Stage pianos and console digitals wrapped and carried, with the stand taken apart rather than carried whole.
Organs and Harpsichords
Church and home organs, and harpsichords, moved with the same care and the pedals detached where they come off.
Into or Out of a Condo
Elevator car measured against the piano, a booked service elevator and padding on every corner of the route.
Piano to Storage
Wrapped and boarded into storage while a renovation finishes or a house sells, and brought back the same way. Learn more →

What a Piano Move Includes
The weight is only half of it. An upright carries most of its mass in the cast iron plate at the top, so it wants to tip, and a grand on its side is a long, narrow load that wants to roll. Both are handled with equipment built for them, not with blankets and good intentions.
Every piano move starts with photos of the route: the room it sits in, the doorways, any stairs and the turn at the top of them. From those we send the right number of movers and tell you roughly how long it should take.
- A crew of three for anything acoustic: two on the piano and one on the doors, the board and the straps.
- A piano board and skid: the padded board the piano is strapped to for stairs and the truck.
- Grand piano disassembly: legs, lyre and pedal assembly removed, labelled and reinstalled at the other end.
- Padding on the case and the route: blankets on the piano, runners on the floors, guards on the door jambs.
- A ramp onto the truck: the piano rolls on and is strapped to the wall; it is never lifted onto the deck by hand.
- Placement in the room you choose: we set it where you want it and tell you what to avoid, which is usually a heating vent or a south window.
Why Pianos Get Their Own Crew
It Is Heavier Than It Looks, and Top-Heavy
A console upright runs around 150 to 250 kilograms and a full-size upright can pass 300. Most of that is the cast iron plate behind the strings, high in the case, which is why a piano walked by two people without a board tips at the first step.
Stairs Are Where Pianos Get Hurt
Every flight is planned before the day: the width at the landing, the headroom at the turn, whether the railing comes off. On a Vancouver character house the front steps are often the only route and they are wet half the year, so we board the piano outside and keep the straps on until it is inside the truck.
Grands Come Apart on Purpose
A grand that is wheeled through a house on its own legs will break a leg, and the leg is the cheap part. We remove the legs and lyre, lay the piano on a skid board on its straight side, wrap it and move it flat. It takes longer than it looks and it is the only right way.
Condos Need the Elevator Measured
A tall upright that fits the elevator standing may not clear the door on the tilt, and a grand on a board needs the car’s diagonal, not its width. We ask for the building’s elevator dimensions before we quote so there is no surprise in the lobby.
Tuning Comes After, Not From Us
Moving a piano does not put it out of tune; the change in room and humidity does. Give it two to three weeks in the new spot before you call a tuner, so it settles once rather than twice. We do not tune pianos and we will not pretend to.
Insured for the Instrument
Licensed, bonded and WorkSafeBC registered on every job. The piano is usually worth more than the rest of the room put together, and the cover is in writing before it leaves the floor.

How a Piano Move Runs
1. Send photos and the type. The piano, the room, the doorway, the stairs, and for a grand its length along the straight side.
2. Hear back with a crew and a plan. How many movers, what equipment, and roughly how long the job should take.
3. Pick a window. We fit the move around the building’s elevator booking or the church’s schedule.
4. Boarded, moved, rebuilt. Wrapped and strapped before it moves, set up and placed before we leave.
Where to Put It in the New Home
Pianos hold their tune best where the humidity stays steady. On the coast that means away from a heat register, a fireplace, a baseboard heater and a south-facing window, and not against an exterior wall if an interior one is available. A hallway with a draft is worse than a small room with a door.
Leave a few centimetres between an upright and the wall so the soundboard can breathe, and put a grand where the lid can open without hitting a light fixture. We will set it there on the day; you only have to decide.
Parking, Stratas and Elevators
A piano cannot be walked a block from the truck, so parking at the door matters more than on any other move. In Vancouver a reserved curb needs a street occupancy permit that takes 7 to 10 business days, so apply when you book, not the week of the move.
Stratas set their own elevator rules and most want pads up and a booked window. Ask the concierge for the elevator’s inside dimensions at the same time; we need the depth and the door height, which are different numbers.
Piano Moving FAQs
How much does it cost to move a piano in Vancouver?
Local piano moves are billed by the hour for a three-person crew, and the hours come from the stairs and the access, not the distance. A ground-floor upright with a driveway at both ends is a short job; a grand down a flight of stairs and into a condo with a shared elevator is a long one. Photos of the route are enough for us to come back with the crew size and a time estimate.
Can two movers move an upright piano?
On flat ground with a dolly, sometimes. On any stairs, no. The weight sits high in the case and the second person on the stairs is the one keeping it from tipping, so we send three for anything acoustic and quote it that way from the start.
Will the piano need tuning after the move?
Probably, but not because of the move itself. The new room’s temperature and humidity are what shift the tuning. Wait two to three weeks for it to settle, then book a tuner. Tuning is not something we offer.
Can you move a piano up or down stairs?
Yes, and it is most of what piano moving is. We need photos of the stairs and the landing at the top, and a measurement of the narrowest point. If the piano will not make the turn, we tell you before the day rather than on it.
Can you move a piano into storage?
Yes. It goes into storage wrapped and on its board, and comes back out the same way. If it will be stored for months, ask about the storage conditions, since big swings in humidity are what pianos dislike most.
Do you move pianos between cities?
Across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley on a local job, yes. For a piano going to the Island, the Interior or another province it travels as part of a long-distance move, strapped and boarded for the whole trip.
