Long-distance pricing depends on total distance, weight, and timing, so it doesn’t fit a simple calculator. Our team can put together an accurate long-distance quote for you — request one here.
Every number here is a rough estimate for comparison, not a quote. Secure Moving bills hourly with an upfront rate confirmed before your move — the DIY and container figures are typical market ranges, not our pricing, and can vary by provider and season.
5 ways to bring your moving cost down
- Move on a weekday, mid-month. Movers see most of their demand on weekends and around the 1st and last few days of the month, when leases turn over. A Tuesday in the third week is usually the easiest slot to book and often the cheapest.
- Do your own packing. Labour hours are what drive an hourly quote, and packing takes longer than most people expect. Boxing up books, clothes and kitchen items yourself, then leaving the heavy furniture to the crew, can shave a meaningful chunk off the total.
- Get rid of what you’re not taking, before moving day. Every extra dresser or box of things headed for donation adds truck space and carrying time. A weekend of decluttering ahead of the move pays for itself in fewer billed hours.
- Have a plan for where everything goes. Crews charge for time, and time disappears fast when someone has to stop and ask which room a couch belongs in. A simple room-by-room label system keeps the truck moving.
- Book early for peak season. May through September is when BC moving companies are busiest, and late requests often mean fewer date options and higher demand pricing. Locking in a date a few weeks out usually gets better availability.
